About the club

General Information

P.D.S.C. has long had the reputation of being a friendly and informal club that welcomes people of all ages who are interested in sailing, whether this takes the form of racing, cruising or just sailing for fun.

It is a club that particularly welcomes families. The present members are eager to keep up this reputation and new members are soon made to feel at home. The club has a thriving youth section and makes strenuous efforts to encourage young people as well as adults new to the sport.  The club was the first in Wales to become a Volvo Champion Club (Youth Development).

We own a new purpose built clubhouse (2003) with a dinghy park for over 100 boats and slipway (accessible at all states of the tide). The clubhouse has central heating, double glazing, clubroom, changing rooms (including disabled facilities), showers (hot!), training room, and a galley serving hot food & drinks on race days. The club does not have a bar but does hold a licence to sell drinks during social events. There is a pub across the green.

Racing

Beginners/improvers are encouraged to race and many experienced members race both competitively at the club and elsewhere. Currently there are several National and European Champions (and ex-champions) who sail regularly at the club.  Racing takes place from late March to late December on Saturday afternoons, and on Wednesday evenings from late April to early September. Many members are keen racers and we organise Handicap racing (fast, medium and slow) for dinghies and keelboats with open meetings held during the season. Popular classes at the club are RS400s, Lasers, Solos, GP14s, Enterprises and Optimists.

Moorings

There are deepwater moorings controlled by the Caernarfon Harbour Trust adjacent to the club.

Winter Storage

Subject to availability of space members can store boats in the dinghy park with an upper limit of 7 metres for keelboats with the proviso that they can be moved as required and that they will be launched by May.

New Members and Visitors

We would like you to join in the club activities before deciding on joining. Newcomers to sailing need not own a boat to join the club and it is recommended that before buying a boat, advice is sought from experienced members so that they can point you in the right direction. Newcomers are permitted to crew or helm as guests of the club for up to 3 races. Link to information, subscriptions and application form.

Visitors Book

For insurance purposes, members introducing visitors or guests to the club must ensure that they are signed into the visitors book which is held in the clubhouse

Introduction to Sailing

The club holds Youth Training sessions for beginners, improvers and those starting to race. The club owns a variety of sailing dinghies and courses are held at the club on Saturday mornings in the season. Adult Training takes place on Friday evenings. Link to training.

Club Boat Hire

The club owns six Optimists suitable for children 8 to 14 years old, and four singlehander Toppers and two doublehanded Fevas, suitable for teenagers or adults. Club boats are used for training and racing and are available for hire (when available) on sailing days. Please see additional information.

Social Events

Besides the Annual Dinner and Prize Giving there are Fitting Out and Laying Up suppers, barbecues and other social events held at the club. Link to social.
