Mike Hardie braved the cold in his Solo to take part in Bloody Mary, Queen Mary SC.

A cold Mike said afterwards “You missed a real treat, I don't think I have ever been so

cold, the bottom of the boat was a sheet of ice, so tacking was a nightmare, each time

I tacked I ended upon my a**e in the bottom of the boat” no change there then Mike!

Bala Massaca Pursuit -

Race Report Alex Morrison (Phantom) - 30knts, snow, sleet & hail just sums up the race.

20+ boats had gathered for the race but most were struggling to launch.  I was having

my own problems just before the start with a complete nose dive all the way up to the

centreboard!  Thankfully my only capsize.  Only a handful of  boats had actually started

with rescue crews very busy. After half an hour I was up to 3rd with only a Europe and a

RS200 to catch by now the race course had many abandoned boat floating around!  On

the next fetch I managed to pass the Europe and was after the RS200.  By now there

was only us 3 really actually racing.  The RS200 had a gap of around 200yrds with me

reeling him in on the beat and him pulling away downwind with the kite.  Just after the

2hr mark and another hail storm (it felt like on of those extreme weather programmes)

I decided to woose out while I still could.  After the 3hrs the 200 went on and took the

honours with the Euorpe in second (mad men)

Top Tip - If it’s snowing/sleeting/hailing on the way to Bala, it doesn’t get any better there! Turn around :)
